Egress Windows

Egress Windows

An egress window looks just like a regular large window, but opens fully to allow a building's inhabitants to escape in the event of an emergency, such as a house fire. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be legally converted into a living space.

In case of emergency, egress windows should be easy for anyone to open from the inside without the use of keys, tools or special knowledge to allow persons to escape a bedroom. If a window in a basement bedroom has a window-well, then the window opening into the window-well must be at least 30” in front of the designated egress window.

At Bozeman Handyman, we have been installing fire code compliant egress windows for over 15 years and look forward to assisting you with your project.
